Improvisation, Contact & Creation
Workshop 32
Skilled Improvisation based on Javanese Court Dance Philosophy
Agung GUNAWAN
Agung will show how to develop or create our improvisation dance performance as a response to the nature or environment around you.
The workshop will make you have more exploration, study or awareness of our own body with Agung’s methodologies and dance philosophy which he established from his ingrained training and deep-rooted traditional court dance technique with his almost 41 years of stage experiences
- Breathing – wind giving breath
- Listening – wind whispering in the air
- Sensing – wind touching your body
- Floating – wind rocking you like a cradle
‘Breathing’, ‘listening’, ‘sensing’ and ‘floating’ from Agung’s dance methodologies or system are all strongly connected to the 4 basic but strict requirements for a perfect Javanese Court Dance presentation, which are;
- Sawiji – concentration of mind
- Greget – enthusiasm and consciousness
- Sengguh – self-confidence
- Ora Mingkuh – no surrender
Indonesia Bedeyo dance philosophy will be utilised and introduced to help participants understand the strong connection between the Javanese spiritual and animistic practices. And Agung will let us know how these can be adapted into artistic form in the processor this workshop.
Vision of workshop:
Welcome all dancers, directors and choreographers to come for making a new challenge to their art of life.
*All income from Agung’s volunteer teaching from this workshop will be donated to Moving Arts。 Hong Kong (a non-profit making registered art company) as the subsidy of HK x Indonesia Youth dance education scheme
