Not A Double Room (Excerpt)
Not A Double Room was premiered in 1995 and rerun in 2010. Y-Space was invited to stage the production in Taipei, Munich and Guangzhou. It was based on what Victor Choi-wo MA and Mandy Ming-yin YIM saw while travelling in Europe 22 years ago and inspired by pre-handover Hong Kong. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the handover. i-Dance Festival (HK) was first organised by a group of independent contemporary dance artists in 2004. Y-Space took over the festival in 2009. Taiwan, South Korea and Japan have also founded their own i-Dance Festivals in 2011, 2012 and 2013 respectively, forming an i-Dance Festival network in Asia.
This year’s i-Dance Festival (HK) is not as large-scale as the previous ones due to lack of resources. We would like to focus on the theme of Research, Development and Archives in response to the live issues and needs of Hong Kong dance industry in order to raise Hongkongers’ awareness of the status quo of dance research, development and recorded information management in the city and explore the future of the local dance world together!

Conference: Research Studies in Dance and Dance Archives in Hong Kong
Hong Kong is a cosmopolitan city with a relatively short history of dance. How is our relevant recorded information management compared to other regions? Without enough archives, how can we study and recreate the time art?
It is difficult for the local academy to maintain its status on the global stage and unhealthy for the development of Hong Kong Dance in the long run when the research findings on dance remain inadequate and unpublished. This year’s i-Dance Festival (HK) Conference might stimulate discussion and provide a prospective.
